About Us

Our Story Troop 89 is proud to have 75 years of Scouting excellence in our community. Founded in 1941, we have proudly served the Skiatook area throughout our existence. Our alumni are everywhere. They are our community leaders and the town’s founding fathers--some of whom are woven into the very fiber of Skiatook’s history. A history to be proud of.... Over the years we have had more than 17 Scoutmasters, 63 Eagle Scouts, and countless memories. We have enjoyed endless support from our town’s churches and civic organizations. The secret to our success has been consistent throughout the years: it is the boys. Our boys have always been, and still are, some of the finest and most outstanding. They possess a strong foundation of moral character. Eighty-Nine's boys have always brought with them a strong perseverance and the ability to overcome their obstacles. Our boys allow the troop to maintain the traditions of Scouting and to reserve respect for the honor of Eagle Scout. A tradition of excellence in outdoor activities . . . Troop 89 maintains a consistently high level of quality outdoor activities responsive to the interests of our scouts. Each year the troop strives to have monthly activities including camping, hiking, caving, climbing, water activities, and community service in a wide variety of locations from Skiatook Lake to Black Mesa and in all types of weather including the heat of summer in Oklahoma and Trappers Rendezvous in Kansas in January. Each year the troop attends a BSA summer camp as well providing a high adventure experience including Philmont in New Mexico, Boundary Waters on the US/Canadian border area and canoeing the Current River in Southeast Missouri.
